With personal navigation systems becoming so popular over the last year or two, some have questioned the effect they have on traffic safety on UK roads.

Some motorists feel it may distract drivers, while others think that getting motorists to their destinations more efficiently reduces stress and tiredness.

GPS in-car Satellite Navigation Systems have now reached the point where they are incredibly accurate, reliable and easy to use. With constantly updated maps on numerous destinations and with competition rife, they are becoming more affordable than ever- the toughest decision is which one to buy.

Technology is ever-adapting and updating, with ‘sat navs’ follow a similar trend. There’s no sign of the portable sat-nav boom slowing, with new models, updates and features hitting the market at a staggering pace. And that’s not the only good news for drivers, because prices are tumbling as firms fight for market share.

A GPS unit uses touch screen display so you can operate it just by tapping the screen, which makes it easy to use while driving and less on a distraction than reading a map.

In a recent survey results revealed that drivers using a navigation device had 12% improved reaction times. Moreover, 78% of people felt more in control, 68% less distracted, 67% less stressed and 45% more alert when using a navigation system.

Not surprising, 62% of UK motorists feel that satellite navigation systems make it easier to keep focused on the road.
