Blackspot targeted by local council

New signs are to be installed to encourage motorists to reduce their speed on a Calverley blackspot.Vehicle Activated Signs are to be erected along Woodhall Road as a means of emphasise the 30mph speed limit, Calverley Today reports.The move could help prevent accidents on the spot, of which there have been 11 in the last five years that resulted in driver injury, while motorists' good car insurance premiums in the region may be improved by the move.Emphasising this point, councillor Joe Marjoram commented: "Vehicles breaking the speed limit are risking their own lives and those of other drivers and pedestrians. "I hope that these new measures will succeed in getting the important safety message across to all road users."Some £8,400 is to be spent on the signs, which will alert drivers of their speed and make them aware of upcoming changes in the road.Meanwhile, increased measures to improve the safety of an accident blackspot in Plymouth have been called for by the mayor of Saltash Derek Holley in an appeal to the Highway Agency.
