Monday, 24/11/2008

A campaign being run by Northern Constabulary, Grampian police and drinks manufacturer Diageo could see the number of car insurance claims made in Scotland fall. The Winter Safe Journey initiative has been set up in a bid to improve road safety by reminding drivers about the dangers of motoring at this time of year.Covering issues such as wearing seatbelts, keeping cars well-maintained, speeding and drink driving, it has been claimed the campaign will be backed with strict police enforcement.Minister for transport in Scotland Stewart Stevenson said, despite the fact deaths and injuries on the country's roads were at their lowest levels for more than 50 years, more could be done.He stated: "I'd urge all drivers to listen to the advice of our leading police officers this winter - it could save lives."In other news, a recent operation in Northumberland resulted in 25 vehicles being seized as the people behind the wheel did not have car insurance.
