Car crime clinic sees drivers secure plates

Wednesday, 27/08/2008

Drivers across Rochdale have been given the opportunity to have their registration plates secured in car-crime clinics set up to fight back against licence theft, it has been reported.According to Rochdale Online, two Safe Plate Days have been organised by officials and police officers onhand will fit special screws to keep the pieces attached. It could be that by incorporating the strategy, motorists find that their vehicles are not targeted by thieves and as a result they are less likely to make claims on their car insurance policies.Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Michelle Hughes commented that the scheme could save people money in the long run."I would urge people to attend the clinics, because having these screws fitted is a simple measure that will reduce the risk of cars being targeted," said the official. The Home Office website states that most vehicle crime is opportunistic and can therefore be prevented.
