Car enquiries for electric options see "huge growth"

Sunday, 26/04/2009

Sales of electric cars could be set for an increase, as a "huge growth" in enquiries for the vehicles has been reported by a dealer.

The firm evstores has said there has been a large increase in people asking about buying its MyCar city model.

A single charge can allow this car to travel between 40 and 50 miles.

Chancellor Alistair Darling recently announced that the government will offer a discount of up to £2,000 for people who buy one of the vehicles from 2011.

However, evstores' co-founder Evert Geurtsen said that people "do not need to wait" until then to take advantage of its offers.

"Starting from less than £10,000 our cars do not need a subsidy to make sense. Road tax is zero and electricity costs less than 2p per mile," he said.

Mr Geurtsen also reminded motorists that the congestion charge does not apply to electric vehicles.

Interested in electric cars? Then why not have a quick motoring Q&A with your local dealer to see if one might be suitable for you.
