Environmental concerns are being prioritised by carmakers thanks to international pressure, it has been suggested. The editor of Autocar magazine has suggested that green issues are at the top of the agenda in many sectors and that in the automotive market, this is evident at the International Motor Show.
He said: "Like every road show at the moment, everyone's got some sort of environmental concept so everyone is showing those things off."
He suggested that the motor show was full of concept vehicles that are "greener and cleaner" than cars that came before. This could be the result of "huge" pressure on car manufacturers to release more cars that are environmentally-friendly.
"But to be fair they [the car makers] do seem to be responding at the moment," he added.
Electric, hybrid and small cars have grabbed centre stage at auto shows. Some global automotive company’s unveiled new electric and hybrid cars as car companies battle for green leadership and strive to meet stringent new fuel economy and emission requirements later this decade.
