Carmaker fund inspires 'EcoDrivers'

The Toyota Fund for Europe has this week announced the launch of EcoDriving, a programme to help people save money when filling up and reduce their carbon footprint.It said its smarter driving tips will help motorists with car insurance reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by up to ten per cent.Together with the non-governmental network Global Action Plan International, Toyota will organise 8,000 workshops across the continent to reach 12,000 European drivers, including those in the UK.Graham Smith, chairman of the Toyota Fund for Europe, said: "EcoDriving does not mean that drivers have to purchase costly devices or modify their vehicles."He added that simple changes to driving behaviour can result in financial savings and reduced damage to the environment.The Free Gas Party website advises drivers to avoid coming to a complete stop at red lights in order to maintain forward momentum, as the inertia of the car will mean less petrol is needed to accelerate it once the lights change.
