Drivers who do not want to spend the festive season sorting out a car insurance claim need to be vigilant when out shopping, according to Surry police.Motorists have been warned not to leave bags - or other signs of presents, like wrapping paper - on view in unattended vehicles.The police pointed out a bag of Christmas stocking fillers left on the back seat can make a thief's day.Drivers were also advised to be wary of criminals who hang around in car parks looking out for people who drop off their shopping before heading off to search for more presents.Jamie Robinson, crime reduction advisor, said: "It is important for people to be particularly vigilant at this time of year."Meanwhile, motorists who have been victims of car thieves may welcome the news a police crackdown on vehicle crime in Wigan and Leigh resulted in the arrests of three people.
