Sunday, 26/10/2008

Drivers need to adapt their behaviour behind the wheel now the clocks have been turned back if they are to avoid a car insurance claim, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has advised. The organisation stated the typical commute from work will take place in the dark and added people should make allowances for this.It stated night conditions make roads more difficult to read, as signs, objects and other vehicles are harder to make out.Seasonal hazards - such as rain and wind - can make the situation even more treacherous, the group claimed.Motorists are also often more tired at this time of the year, the IAM pointed out.It warned one in five motorway crashes are fatigue related.Meanwhile, IAM recently criticised plans to remove speed cameras in Swindon, describing the move as "misplaced tokenism".The group said such devices played a useful role in keeping down road deaths and serious injuries.
