Don't judge car insurance by its price, ABI warns

Thursday, 29/01/2009

Car insurance customers who may be buying or updating their policy should not be tempted to go for what seems like the cheapest offer, it has been advised.According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the current financial climate may encourage more consumers to use this criterion when purchasing such a product. But the main decider should be which policy is the most suitable, said ABI media relations officer Malcolm Tarling."People should always buy on cover and not just price," he explained."It is a competitive market so there should be no reason why you can't do that."Earlier this week, the association discussed whether home insurance policies would need updating if the holder decided to acquire a pet.A spokesperson for the group said it was unlikely that this cover would be affected, although damage caused by animals probably was not included in the terms of the agreement.
