Motorists who want to avoid a car insurance claim in the coming months should consider changing their tyres, it has been suggested.Road safety group TyreSafe said standard tyres are not necessarily designed to cope with winter weather conditions. The organisation pointed to statistics from the Department for Transport which show 55 per cent of traffic accidents where the state of the road played a part in 2007 were down to slippery surfaces. As a result, chairman of Tyresafe Rob Beddis has been calling for people to think about buying tyres which are specially designed to deal with ice and snow.He stated: "With temperatures frequently below seven degrees C in the UK over winter, particularly in rush hour when the traffic is at its heaviest, cold weather tyres offer a sensible alternative."Earlier this year, TyreSafe said motorists should check they have sufficient tread on their tyres before the weather gets too bad.
