A crackdown on motorists travelling without their seatbelts has resulted in 60 drivers being caught out by police in Essex, it has been reported.
The Essex Echo has commented that officials stopped drivers at the junction of Southend Road and Sutton Road last week.
It may be that people caught breaking the law in such a manner have difficulty picking up car insurance policies in the future.
This is because some cover firms could choose not to offer cheap deals to motorists who have a history of poor behaviour on the road.
"If you are involved in a road accident when not wearing seatbelt you have a greater chance of being seriously injured," said Essex Casualty Reduction Board chairman Councillor Norman Hume.
This comes as police in Scotland have launched a similar campaign to tackle drivers not wearing seatbelts and breaking the speed limit in the country.
