Motorists who take to the road despite having taken illegal drugs are to be targeted as part of a new crackdown.
Greater Manchester Casualty Reduction Partnership have launched a campaign to get across the message: "Drug-driving ... you'd be off your head".
Advertising on close to 400,000 beer mats and 6,500 posters, the body hopes that it can cut down on the 30 per cent of young drivers who would get behind the wheel under the influence.
Those who pick up a related conviction could find that they get an increased car insurance policy in the future, as cover companies could judge them to be a risk on the road.
"We have made a major investment in training officers to undertake roadside drug impairment testing. More than 180 trained officers will be deployed during this campaign to specifically target drug-drivers," said Chief Inspector Haydn Roberts.
Meanwhile, the Telegraph has cited the Forensic Science Service, which states that cannabis is now responsible for three-quarters of drug-driving cases.
