DSA makes license fraudster warning

Tuesday, 23/09/2008

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has issued a warning to individuals who drive without a proper licence. As well as risking invalidating their car insurance by driving without a genuine licence, fraudsters will also be liable for significant fines and possible custodial sentences, it said.Driving test impersonator Joseph Nazaire Djoukam, 41, of south-east London was sentenced to eight months imprisonment at Croydon Crown Court, for conspiracy to obtain property by deception. And three of his candidates received a total fine of £1,600 in court costs, had their licenses revoked and must complete 350 hours of community service.Andrew Rice, head of fraud and integrity at the DSA, said: "Tackling impersonations is a key priority for the agency as failing to identify offenders presents a significant danger to road safety."He added that an illegal driving license can be used for identity fraud as well as illegal driving, with the DSA working closely with the police to ensure justice is done.Last week, the DSA reported on a similar case of driving test impersonation at Ipswich Crown Court involving a fake examiner and ten bogus candidates.
