Tuesday, 25/11/2008

Motorists who do not want to end up making a car insurance claim should get their eyes checked on a regular basis, it has been suggested.A study by Specsavers has revealed one in ten drivers have had an accident or a near miss because they were not wearing their glasses. The research also found over a quarter of motorists have not been to see an optician since passing their test.Of the people who admitted this, half said they thought they would fail an eye examination.Road safety charity Brake stated it was vital for motorists to visit an optician regularly.Helen Haughton from the organisation commented: "Being perceptive and alert as a driver, especially on congested roads, is crucial."From 2011 new EU driving licences are set to record a motorist's eyecare prescription.Meanwhile, earlier research by Specsavers suggested the eyesight of a quarter of drivers in Surrey was so bad they should not be on the road.
