Car insurance customers may welcome the news vehicle scrappage plans was one of the issues at the top of the Treasury\'s agenda this week.
According to the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF), its proposals to offer financial incentives to drivers prepared to get rid of older motors were under consideration by the exchequer secretary, Angela Eagle.
The group stated the introduction of such a scheme would help stimulate the new car and van market.
RMIF chairman Paul Williams said this kind of initiative could create demand for up to 250,000 vehicles, while also removing the same number of highly-polluting models from UK roads.
Ms Eagle reportedly said the government was seriously considering the proposals.
Commenting on the discussion, Mr Williams stated: "I was extremely encouraged by the response received at today\'s meeting with the exchequer secretary."
Meanwhile, the RMIF recently announced it was looking into the possibility of setting up a facility to offer buyers car finance.
