Horse-risk for Banbridge drivers

Wednesday, 30/01/2008

Motorists need to be careful of stray horses approaching roads in the region, according to a local news source.

The Banbridge Leader comments that drivers in the Dromore and Banbridge areas have experienced difficulties as a result of animals from nearby stables heading onto highways.

It may be that those who end up being involved in an accident because of this find it hard to pick up a cheap car insurance policy in the future, as some cover firms could see them as a risk.

The news source adds that a spokesperson for the local constabulary has commented on the force's concern about the problem.

"Not only do the animals risk being harmed but they also pose a real danger to road users, increasing the risk of a serious road traffic accident should a motorist have to take evasive action to avoid collision," said the representative.

Meanwhile, a fire crew in Cornwall has been given an RSPCA award for rescuing two horses from a canal last year.
