Motorists in Maidenhead have been reminded of the need to make sure their vehicles contain no valuable items when they leave them, a local news source states.
According to the Maidenhead Advertiser, local police are warning drivers after a number of car thefts took place in the area over the weekend.
It may be that such an incident seriously compromises a car insurance policy, as cover companies may judge the motorist to be a risky road user and charge them more.
Jim Templer, acting superintendent of the Windsor and Maidenhead local police area, commented that the festive season can be a particularly busy time for thieves.
"Leaving your vehicle empty is especially important on the run-up to Christmas," he said.
He added: "When you are busy shopping, it's all too easy to leave your purchases in the car, which is a great temptation for thieves."
This comes as the Argus reports that Operation Detect has been launched by officials in Brighton and Hove to reduce car crime in the region.
