Those who have personalised their car registration plate will be the target of an operation from police in Lancashire, it has been reported.
According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Operation Larch is being launched as new technology which can read plates often struggles with numbers in different fonts as well as manipulative registrations.
It may be that those caught out pick up a fixed penalty notice, which could see them have difficulty looking for a car insurance policy at a reasonable price in the future.
Steve Jackson, who runs Lancashire's owner plate seller, claims the scheme is unfair to motorists.
"The police should target the companies that are prepared to print the illegal number plates," he said.
Meanwhile, What Car? reports that the DVLA has banned a number of registration numbers as they have been deemed offensive.
Among the outlawed plates are BO08 LES and anything beginning with KN08.
