Lorry drivers come together over fuel costs

Wednesday, 28/05/2008

Motorists in the UK yesterday protested the increasing cost of fuel across Britain.

Organised by TransAction 2007, some 300 dissatisfied drivers took their vehicles to the A40 for one Marble Arch protest, while 100 banded together in Wales, according to Times Online.

Increases in fuel costs have seen petrol hit 114p per litre while diesel now costs around 126p per litre - a hike which may be difficult to adjust to on top of road tax and car insurance prices.

The group put together a letter to Gordon Brown which called the situation "a crisis".

It read: "We are not faceless multinational companies - we are small and medium family companies built up over generations with hard work and determination."

One solution to the hikes, suggested by French president Nicholas Sarkozy, is a cut in VAT across Europe, which he believes would bring down fuel prices on the continent.
