M8 motorway 'suffers seven rush hours per day'

Monday, 26/11/2007

Rush hour conditions are experienced up to seven times per day on one motorway in Scotland, it has been reported.

According to Trafficmaster research in the Scotland on Sunday, the stretch between Livingston and Edinburgh suffers a morning rush which lasts from 07:02 to 09:13 GMT.

This could be down to an increased number of people owning cars in the area, which could in turn prove to be a problem for those looking to keep car insurance policy prices down.

Neil Greig, director at IAM Motoring Group, believes M8 drivers need to be given more space.

He said: "The problem with the M8 is that there is no public transport alternative if people want to get to work and back home on time. We need extra road capacity on this route."

In Glasgow, residents have spoken out after it was revealed that some road lights on the M8 have been kept on for six months straight, the Glasgow Evening Times has reported.
