Men are more likely to be left stranded at the side of the road after running out of fuel than women, a recent survey by roadside assistance firm Green Flag has claimed. And even when they do remember to fill up, they are more likely to put the wrong fuel in the tank.
Over half of all men admit to having run out of fuel in the past, compared to only around 40 percent of all women. A persistent nine per cent of all men say that it has happened to them at least three times, although a similar number say that they compulsively fill up halfway through the tank.
More than a tenth of all drivers have filled up with the wrong fuel, facing an average £125 bill to clean up afterwards.
In addition, men make more general errors in maintaining their cars than women. Women were found to be around ten percent less likely to have over filled fluids in their car, such as oil, water and brake fluid. They are also less likely to forgotten how to use anti-freeze or driven on a flat tyre.
The credit crunch has brought about an increase in the amount of people fixing and maintaining their own vehicles, but men are more likely than women to have broken something on their car while trying to fix it.
