Over half of cyclists on roads in the UK are worried that vehicles coming to close to them will hit them, it has been reported.
According to a survey of more than 350 bike riders by Pedalite International, 51 per cent fear this, while 61 per believe that cars come too close.
Such a scenario could result in an accident, inconvenient for both parties, with the driver potentially having to claim on their car insurance policy.
The poll also found that 48 per cent of those on the road feel unsafe, while 21 per cent believed that new cycle lanes installed in the UK in recent years are still not enough.
"Our research clearly shows that many motorists are driving too close to cyclists making them feel insecure and in some cases, causing them to lose their balance," said former World and European track cyclist Tony Doyle MBE.
Meanwhile, the Burnley Citizen is reporting that a cyclist is fighting for his life after a road collision in Rawtenstall.
