Drivers who are concerned about staying on top of motoring costs, such as maintenance, road tax and car insurance, may find new tips can help them control at least one of their main outgoings.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) claimed vehicle owners can shave ten per cent off their annual fuel bill by adapting their driving style.
It stated people should make the effort to drive smoothly, as slamming the brakes on results in higher fuel consumption.
The group also pointed out having tyres inflated to the correct level can keep trips to the pump to a minimum.
In addition to this, the organisation suggested people remove roof-racks when they are not in use.
This comes after an increase in fuel duty came into force at the beginning of the month.
Peter Rodger, IAM chief examiner, said: "An additional 2p per litre doesn\'t sound much but it will quickly add up."
In other news, the group recently called on drivers to prepare for darker mornings after the clocks went forward.
