Motorists need to check tyre pressure
Drivers that cover hundreds of mile for work or travel need to check their tyre pressure regularly, say motoring experts.
Tyre pressure, tread depth and wheel conditions should be checked regularly before motorists set off on any journey to ensure that the vehicle is in top-condition.
Correct tyre pressure can help to extend the life of your tyre, improve vehicle safety and maintain fuel efficiency. Pressure is measured by calculating the amount of air that has been pumped into the inner lining of your tyre in pounds force (PSI) or BAR pressure.
The manufacturer of your vehicle specifies the suitable pressure, and it is your responsibility to make sure that the pressure is checked and corrected on a regular basis, at least every couple of weeks.
Experts say that keeping tyres at the correct pressure and tread depth above the legal minimum of 1.6mm can give drivers increased control, resulting in a reduced chance of being involved on an accident on the roads.
If you do ensure that your tyres are in good condition then you could save money on your car insurance policies, as insurance companies will not offer cheap deals to motorists with poor road history.
It is advised that motorists take their cars to have their tyres checked professionally – this can be do any reputable tyre dealership, who will also offer you sound advice and information on tyre safety.
