Motorists 'neglecting basic maintenance'

Monday, 22/12/2008

Some vehicle owners could end up having to sort out car insurance claims this Christmas because they are failing to carry out basic maintenance, it has been suggested.A survey by Auto Windscreens found 77 per cent of drivers do not ensure their motors are in good working order before setting off on journeys to visit family and friends. It revealed 29 per cent of motorists do not sort out broken brake lights as soon as the problem comes to their attention, while 25 per cent fail to replace worn tyres. The study also showed 47 per cent of vehicle owners do not get windscreen chips fixed immediately, with 26 per cent admitting they would wait until a crack developed before doing anything about it.Abu Haris-Shafi, managing director at Auto Windscreens, commented: "With the huge amounts of miles travelled at Christmas, drivers simply can't afford to ignore essential car maintenance."In other news, the company recently announced it had made it easier for motorists to book repairs with the launch of its new website.
