Drivers in the UK should be given an eye test every three years in order to ensure their sight is still fit for the road, it has been claimed.
A study from Specsavers at the Drive Safe Roadshow at Olympia in London saw 500 people checked, with at least a third testing badly, according to Optician Online.
Dame Mary Perkins, founder of the vision company, remarked that the show was put together to improve driver awareness of the issue.
Indeed, it may be that regular eye tests can prevent people from being involved in accidents and reduce their chances of invalidating their car insurance policies as a result.
"These results show that a significant number of London's drivers are worryingly unsafe. Being perceptive and alert as a driver, especially in a congested city such London, is crucial," said the official.
Department for Transport figures show that 3,150 people were killed in traffic collisions in the UK in 2006.
