New initiative clamps down on rogue parkers

Monday, 28/07/2008

Motorists who park illegally across the UK are to be targeted as part of a crackdown led by the Department for Transport.According to transport minister Rosie Winterton, authorities will be able to punish drivers for leaving models in illegal areas, even if they are not signposted as such.It could be that motorists who pick up a roads conviction in such a manner find it difficult to pick up a car insurance policy as a result. This is because some cover firms could judge them to be a road risk and increase costs.Ms Winteron said: "The Highway Code says that you should not stop or park in such places and we believe placing of traffic signs and/or road markings to indicate these restrictions should not be necessary."This follows new powers given to parking wardens earlier this year allowing them to post tickets to motorists weeks after they are caught leaving their vehicle illegally.
