A new tyre from Michelin could help 4x4 drivers avoid a car insurance claim, it has been suggested.
The manufacturer said its Latitude Cross tyre is specially designed so motorists are safe both on and off-road.
It explained the new product provides excellent levels of grip on both tarmac and loose ground.
The designers responsible for this latest innovation focused on making sure the tyre provides the same type of traction in mud and challenging motoring conditions as those made specially for all-terrain vehicles.
"The goal was to overcome the inherent difficulties in combining on-road and off-road performance," the company stated.
It added: "That goal has now been achieved, thanks to Michelin\'s advanced, innovative solutions."
Motorists who have managed to build up a substantial no-claims bonus may find additional safety measures such as specialist tyres can help them protect their cheap car insurance.
On the other hand, drivers who end up in a collision as the result of poor grip may see the cost of their cover rise significantly.
