People who have managed to secure a competitive deal on cheap car insurance may want to use the money they have saved on treating their mum this Mothering Sunday.
According to DVLA Personalised Registrations, private plates go down well with most motorists.
Marketing manager Damian Lawson said: "They fall into the rare gift-for-life category and, with prices starting from £245, they\'re great value."
Research by the group also revealed personalised registrations are already becoming more popular presents.
Between October 1st 2008 and January 31st 2009, 46 per cent of the private plates bought were intended for a loved one.
Some ten per cent of all sales are believed to be Mother\'s Day, Father\'s Day and Valentine\'s Day gifts.
Available registrations that could make great gifts this Mothering Sunday include MY02 MUM and MY09 MUM.
Mother\'s Day falls on March 22nd this year, which should give sons and daughters plenty of time to sort out a really impressive present.
