Rogue drivers in Chester given choice

Thursday, 26/06/2008

Motorists who flout the laws of the road in Chester are to be given a choice as to how they are punished, it has been reported.

According to the Chester Chronicle, drivers will be allowed to choose whether they are given points on their driving licence or watch a 15-minute video on road safety.

Officers were situated on Sealand Road for an operation on Monday and Hoole Road on Tuesday, catching out drivers found to be over the speed limit, the news source added.

It could be that those who pick up road convictions compromise their car insurance policies, as cover firms could increase costs if they see them as risk.

The offences motorists were caught for included using a mobile phone as they drive.

In February 2007, government legislation introduced means that those found using a handheld device behind the wheel can pick up a £60 fine and three-point licence penalty.
