A royal-themed personalised registration has been sold to a millionaire for the princely sum of £113,815, it was revealed today. The DVLA auction took place in Northampton and saw the number plate 1 HRH go under than hammer.Although the buyer wanted to remain anonymous, he said he made the purchase as an investment and "to keep it in British hands".He is not sure whether to use it for his Rolls Royce Phantom or his Bentley, the DVLA explained, adding that the millionaire is also interested in purchasing the 1 O number plate which is scheduled to be auctioned tomorrow (January 30th)."We received immense interest in 1 HRH and we are delighted at the sum raised, especially given the tough current economic climate," said marketing manager of DVLA Personalised Registrations Damian Lawson. The organisation recently commented on the trend of giving number plates like this for Valentine's Day.Of course, those who decide to buy a special registration are likely to need to inform their car insurance provider.
