Satnavs 'can reduce stress'

Monday, 22/09/2008

Drivers who buy satellite navigation devices to help plan their routes may benefit from improved awareness and reduce stress levels, it has been claimed.New research from TomTom - a leading manufacturer of such products - found that 74 per cent of drivers with a satnav feel more in control when they have the device installed.Furthermore, the same percentage questioned admitted they feel less stressed when driving with a navigation system.Satnavs could potentially offer improved safety, with 55 per cent of drivers feeling more alert with one in their car, compared to nine per cent who disagreed with the statement.Jenny Hodge, a spokesperson of the company, said: "The use of sat nav devices heightens awareness and reduces the stress levels of the driver, as well as improving general driver behaviour."She added that satnavs can also reduce the number of miles driven to reduce fuel costs and benefit the environment, which may interest drivers with car insurance heading out on the road.
