'Smart paint' gives drivers ice warning

Thursday, 26/06/2008

A new type of paint for cars will be able to warn motorists as to when conditions are unsuitable for them to drive.

Developed by French paving company Eurovia, trials of the product are currently underway in cold areas of France.

The paint can be seen by motorists when the temperature falls below one degree C, while it returns to a natural colour when it is above.

It may be that such a system helps motorists save on their car insurance costs as they can dodge accidents by using the paint.

Meanwhile, the BBC has reported that a deal has been struck between Irish and British road policing officials.

It stated that Irish drivers who are disqualified from roads for an offence committed in the UK can no longer escape the conviction when they return to their home country.

The same rule applies the other way around.
