Speeders punished in Avon and Somerset crackdown

Friday, 28/03/2008

Officials in Avon and Somerset have punished drivers found over the speed limit on roads in the region, it has been reported.

The local constabulary has commented that more than 80 motorists were found in violation of highways rules as part of a crackdown on Wednesday.

It may be that drivers who pick up convictions for their road behaviour find that they invalidate their car insurance policies.

This is because some cover companies could consider them a risk and choose to increase polices as a result.

PC Nick Butler, who was in charge of the initiative across the Kingston Seymour, Clevedon, Wrington and Yatton areas, believes that by cutting speeds accidents will also be reduced.

"We believe the day was highly successful and think that motorists have taken on-board the importance of adhering to the speed limits," he said.

Ingrid Tarrant recently avoided a driving ban after being caught travelling at more than 60mph in September.
