Residents in an area of Lancashire have been promised by officials that action will be taken against speeders behaving dangerously on the roads, it has been reported.
According to the Bolton News, a public meeting in Little Lever about Stopes Road earlier this week saw local people demand that something be done to curb the activity.
Motorists who pick up a speeding conviction may find that they have difficulty gaining cheap car insurance in the future, as cover firms could view their record as indicative of a risk and increase costs.
"It is only a matter of time before someone dies on this road. It's not just drivers who are in danger, anyone crossing the road takes their life in their own hands," said local resident Anne Turner.
This comes as statistics released by the Department for Transport this week show that 2,943 people were killed on roads in the UK during 2007.
