The contribution Thatcham has made in reducing accidents and car insurance claims has been recognised.Awarded a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its commitment to whiplash research and the promotion of technologies to cut traffic collisions, the organisation said the honour was "extremely gratifying".Commenting on the accolade, director of RoadSafe Adrian Walsh said: "The outstanding leadership shown by Thatcham, underpinned by its publicity efforts, have raised an understanding of many key vehicle safety features to unprecedented heights."He added the award was "thoroughly deserved and long overdue".Meanwhile Andrew Miller from Thatcham said the honour meant a lot to the research technicians who believe what they do helps keep British motorists safe on the road.In September, the organisation called for Electronic Stability Control to be made standard on all vehicles.The company warned the fact the system was not included on many smaller cars which are cheaper to buy and insure meant young drivers in particular were being put at risk.
