Leaving valuables in vehicles unattended at beauty spots in Pewsey could prove to be a bad idea, police in the region have stated.
According to This Is Wiltshire, local officers have warned motorists that opportunistic thieves often thrive during the tourist season.
Police constable and manager in charge of the rural beat covering the area Mark Fiander Lewis commented that the lighter evenings of summer should not provide an excuse for motorists to be lax over car security.
It may be that those who are punished find that they compromise their car insurance policies in the process as they could be forced to make a claim after a break-in.
"Thieves are known to target beauty spots around the county and your car could be next ... If you leave valuables in full view you are simply tempting a thief to help themselves," said the official.
Home Office statistics show a 51 per cent drop in vehicle crime since 1996.
