Drivers who want to avoid being forced to make a car insurance claim should check their tyre tread before the weather deteriorates, a road safety organisation has claimed.TyreSafe said this time of year can be especially dangerous for motorists as road surfaces are often wet.Figures from the Department for Transport showed November 2007 was the month with the highest number of personal injury crashes that year.Rob Beddis, chairman of TyreSafe, commented: "Accident rates tend to increase at the onset of winter, as many motorists continue to drive their cars on tyres with low or illegal tread depths."He stated drivers who do not check their tyres can find themselves in a situation on a wet road where they cannot get enough grip and lose control.TyreSafe has also advised motorists they should be checking their tyre pressure meets the manufacturer's recommended level at least once a month.
