Vehicles 'would benefit from a spring clean'

Wednesday, 01/04/2009

Car insurance customers keen to keep their vehicles in tip-top condition should think about giving their motors a spring clean, it has been claimed.

According to Autoglym, this winter\'s severe weather could prove damaging to autos if they are not looked after properly.

Chief executive officer Paul Caller said: "Road salt, ice and constantly damp conditions make the winter months a very tough time for cars."

Motorists were advised a thorough spring clean can remove contaminants, reducing the risk of paintwork deterioration and corrosion.

Autoglym stated taking the time to spruce up a car at this time of year will help keep vehicles in good condition for longer.

It pointed out this could result in a higher resale price when the time comes to trade the auto in.

The company cited figures from EurotaxGlass\'s that show a good clean can add up to £600 to the value of a privately sold second-hand motor.

Meanwhile, paying attention to the internal workings of a car could reduce the chances of an accident caused by mechanical failure and a subsequent insurance claim.
