Women Drivers Are Perilous At Parking

Tuesday, 02/02/2010

Women motorists are twice as likely as men to resort to asking another driver to park their car for them.

Recent studies into women’s driving behaviour revealed that women are 23% more likely to hit a car which is perfectly still, be it parked or in a line of traffic.

‘There is a definite difference between genders and their attitudes to parking’. Generally women are not as spatially aware as men, playing a part in not being able to park comfortably or confidently.

Seventy-five per cent of women say parking is harder when being watched compared to just 47 per cent of men who get stage fright at the wheel.

Reports from the AA show, that 34% of women drivers would fail on parallel parking if forced to retake their test.

Women drive more slowly and less aggressively than men, which is why they tend to have minor accidents that cost less- usually parking related.

Road safety experts say that statistics provide compelling evidence that women are prone to lapses in concentration, leading to minor scrapes and bumps- usually involving other cars.

Over 20% of car insurance claims for accidents come from accidents in car parks, it could be as easy as choosing the right parking space which could help to low the cost of women's car insurance cover.
