Young drivers offered grants to improve road skills

Thursday, 08/11/2007

Inexperienced motorists in Somerset are to be given the funds to provide extra road training to make them better drivers, it has been reported.

According to the Weston & Somerset Mercury, the road safety partnership in the county will offer them £60 to pay for some of the £130 it costs to take a Pass Plus course.

The course gives drivers the chance to experience new methods of taking to the road, while it may also help them receive money off their car insurance policies in the future.

Motorists new to the road are more likely to experience a crash during their first year on the road, the news source added.

Furthermore, one-third of all traffic collisions involve those between the ages of 17 and 24.

Meanwhile, the Glasgow Evening Times has reported that there may be motorway misery for local drivers until 2011 as officials are considering delaying a plan to cut congestion.
