Riders keen to avoid a motorbike insurance claim have been reminded about the importance of well-maintained tyres.
According to TyreSafe, the number of MOT failures as a result of tyre defects continues to grow each year.
In light of this finding, the group is urging retailers to support April\'s Bike Tyre Safety Month.
The organisation claimed people selling these important vehicle parts have a vital role to play in raising motorcycle safety awareness.
Rob Beddis, TyreSafe chairman, said: "With only two patches each the size of a credit card in contact with the road, it is essential that bikers ride on correctly inflated tyres with sufficient tread depth."
He added when carrying pillion or panier loads, riders need to be aware they may need to adjust their tyre pressure to accommodate the increased weight.
Previously, TyreSafe stated motorcyclists who spot uneven wear should book an appointment to have their tyres and wheels balanced.
