A study revealed that the number of people taking out motorbike insurance has surged by nearly a quarter this year.
Results from a study by the AA have highlighted that motorbike insurance costs are frequently lower than car insurance premiums. So not ony are Motorbikes and scooters more economical they also tend to be somewhat cheaper to insure.
29% of people switched modes of transport purely due to the lower costs of motorcycle insurance in May 2008.
However 2009 saw a slight decline of 3.4%, which could be partly due to the effects of the recession as motorists struggle with the cost of keeping a vehicle on the road.
The decline in motorbike registrations is relatively small, especially when compared with the car market which experienced an 11.3% decline last year.
Although there have been dips in motorbike insurance figures, according to recent figures, use of mopeds increased with registrations up 1.5%, scooters were up by 1.1% and adventure sport bikes increased by 5.7% and touring bikes rose by 8.6%.
Many insurance companies are now offering special deals on motorbike insurance, in anticipation for a rise in the number of motorbike and moped drivers on the road.
