Women urged to try two wheels

Wednesday, 04/03/2009

Honda has been encouraging more women to consider buying a motorbike and taking out motorcycle insurance.

To mark International Women\'s Day on Sunday March 8th, the manufacturer said females should take advantage of the fun, convenience and independence offered by two wheels.

The company claimed it is keen to dispel the misconception that biking is for boys.

At the moment, some 20 per cent of British riders are female and the number taking compulsory basic training is increasing every year.

Jenny Tinmouth races bikes and plans to take part in her first Isle of Man TT competition in 2009.

She stated: "What I love about motorcycling is the pure grin-factor and the sheer fun of it.

"It would be great to see more girls out there on two wheels."

Women who are tempted to give biking a go may find they qualify for relatively cheap motorcycle insurance, as female road users are generally considered to pose less of a risk than their male counterparts.
