Smooth Roads and Fewer Breakdowns Top Motorists’ Christmas Wish Lists

Friday, 27/11/2009

Motorists in the UK would rather have smooth and well-maintained roads than a plethora of new car toys according to a poll published by car insurance experts Be Wiser Insurance.

18% of respondents spurned options on a dream “wish-list,” which included better sat-navs, heated seats and flashy wheel trims, for a much more basic road requirement - the disappearance of all potholes.

Mark Bower-Dyke, Chairman of Be Wiser Insurance, comments:

“This just goes to show that motorists in the UK are less concerned with flashy toys and more concerned with the well-being of their car. Pot-holes can do a lot of damage to a car over a period of time. If there is a pothole on your daily commute the damage may add up very quickly.”

Possibly more surprising is that only 4% of voters put a continuation of the Government’s scrappage scheme at the top of their list.

Mark Bower-Dyke continues:

“The scrappage scheme is very good for those with eligible cars, but improvements to the quality of the nation’s roads would benefit all motorists!”

Smoother and better conditioned roads would lead to lower damage levels to the car over time, reducing the chances of a breakdown occurring when it is least expected.

Mark Bower-Dyke concludes:

“Breakdowns are, by their nature, unexpected. Potholes can cause low-level problems for cars which might rear up in the future in the form of a breakdown. At such times you’ll be glad of a comprehensive insurance policy and free breakdown cover; at Be Wiser we offer this peace of mind as standard with all our policies.”
