Boy racers and drivers who don’t say thanks when you’ve let them out are the two most annoying types of road user for British motorists, with a survey revealing there is a need for better manners on UK roads.
Boy racers are the most annoying, with 42% of UK drivers naming them as their number one irritation, but 41% of those surveyed named drivers who don’t say thanks as the type they most dislike.
Many drivers thank others who let them out but 37% of male drivers and 46% of female drivers still find those who don’t a major irritation, which can lead to aggression and road rage.
Other bad manners when behind the wheel are tailgating, other drivers using mobiles, being cut up, not indicating and not acknowledging giving way.
Five million British drivers admit to having expressed some form of road rage this year. 16% of drivers admitted to having initiated a road range incident.
Men are more likely to engage in violent behaviour whilst behind the wheel. 55% of motorists polled believed that men under the age of 25 were to be blamed for the high incidence of road rage on British roads.
Being nicer to other drivers and acknowledging their existence calms everyone down, and that's got to be good for everyone. And a friendly raise of the hand and a smile uses much less energy than an angry, heated exchange.
