Saturday, 11/07/2009

Cash-strapped motorists who are finding it hard to cover running costs such as car insurance, maintenance and road tax may be disappointed to find the proposed increase in fuel duty has gone ahead as planned.

However, Kwik-Fit has come up with a number of tips that could help them keep the amount they spend at the pump to a minimum.

It pointed out properly inflated tyres can save motorists three per cent on their fuel bills and removing any unnecessary weight can also improve their vehicles\' efficiency.

Checking brakes are in tip-top condition was highlighted as another way of saving money on petrol or diesel.

David White from Kwik-Fit stated: "In our opinion, these are the most practical, safest and noticeable changes you can make to your driving style, without altering your lifestyle."

The government has raised fuel duty by 1.84 pence per litre.

Meanwhile, previous research from Kwik-Fit recently revealed a quarter of all motorists have inadvertently taken to the road in a vehicle that does not have an up-to-date MOT certificate.
