Monday, 24/11/2008

The news there has been a fall in the number of road deaths in Scotland - which may also have resulted in fewer car insurance claims - has been welcomed by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa).Official figures published this week have revealed an 11 per cent drop in fatalities and an equivalent fall in serious injuries in the country. However, the statistics also showed there had been an increase in the number of people killed in light goods vehicles and those seriously injured after motorcycle accidents.Kathleen Braidwood, Rospa's road safety officer for Scotland, said the overall trend was good news. But she added: "We must guard against complacency, as the disappointing increase in light goods vehicle fatalities shows."Last month, Rospa welcomed a report from the House of Commons Transport Committee calling for more to be done to investigate deaths in work-related road accidents.
