Sat nav errors 'still followed by motorists'

Sunday, 27/07/2008

Drivers in Yorkshire will continue to travel the route recommended by their satellite navigation (sat nav) device, even if it appears to be sending them the wrong way.According to the Huddersfield Examiner, research from rural insurance firm NFU Mutual has found that one in four will carry on following instructions they know are wrong. This comes despite the fact that a survey from the firm found that 91 per cent of people think rural roads are the most dangerous, although 35 per cent do not cut their speed as a result.Peter Allen, NFU Mutual regional board chairman, remarked: "It's particularly worrying that a quarter of sat nav users in the north continue to follow the gadget's instructions when their eyes tell them they are heading up a farm track."The Northampton Chronicle & Echo recently reported that a van in Northampton was broken into and had its sat nav device stolen on Monday July 14th.
